Council 1531 Pembroke

The Knights of Columbus                      Bishop N. Z. Lorrain Council 1531    Pembroke, Ontario

Established january 1911

The Knights of Columbus was originally founded by Father Michael J. McGiveny of St. Mary's Church, New Haven, Connecticut in 1882. The Knights were formed to render financial aid to members and their families, Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled, and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, and public relief works.

Pembroke Council 1531 was established in January of 1911 and its membership consists of Catholic gentlemen from the Pembroke and surrounding area parishes. Each year the Pembroke council's membership provides 1000s of volunteer hours in the local community in addition to financial contributions to local charitable causes, food banks, schools, and Catholic parishes.  Our annual Pat Harrington Golf Tournament has raised over half a million dollars for the Pembroke Regional Hospital in the past few years.

The Knights of Columbus are always seeking opportunities to render assistance in the local community in the spirit of the order's founding principles of charity, unity, and fraternity.

Thanks to the hard work of members of the bing committee, we are still raising funds at the Delta Bingo Gaming centre.

We had two major programs in December.  We were able to donate $4000.00 to the local food banks. St. Joseph’s Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul, The Grind, and Petawawa Pantry each received a donation of $1000.00.

Our Christmas Angel program was another success. This year 14 local schools received a donation of $250.00 each. The schools use these funds to help students’ families that are in need to have a better Christmas.
